Mcnamara Project

My client was looking for more usable outdoor living space for their traditional small city lot. The current landscape in the back yard consisted of a larger wooden landing and concrete that was basically the driveway. Another consideration was that the area needed to be used not only for inviting patio space but also for extra parking. They also wanted an arbor incorporated in the area, to create vertical dimension and the feeling of an outdoor room.

The finished landscape consisted of removing the existing wooden landing/staircase and removing a large portion of the concrete drive. Since my clients hardly ever used the back patio doors, we constructed a smaller landing and staircase to give them more room for the patio. A smaller raised sitting nook was created off to the side and the remaining area was installed at grade for the patio. The areas between the garages were professionally landscaped to give an additional intimate sitting area for our clients.

In order to achieve enough room for parking, a custom cantilevered arbor was installed avoiding two extra posts that would have created "dead space". Belgard 'Mega Bergerac' was the paver of choice for the multi unit pieces and thickness desired for vehicular use. Unilock 'Estate Wall' was used for the pillars and seatwall. Our client liked the larger blocks and cleaner lines the block displayed.

The finished design and installation blended both functionality and an inviting custom retreat for our clients to enjoy.

This residence won the WCMA (Wisconsin Concrete and Masonry Association) for Excellence in Hardscaping.
